In this blog I will be speaking about when I first came into contact with CrossFit and how it helped me and what ambitions it has given me. I first came across CrossFit about 8 years ago after my dad went to do his CrossFit level 1 course and then onto his level 2 after visiting the box which he went to I was fascinated with the sport of CrossFit and how it involves all part of physical fitness and how fit these people actually were. When I became the age to start going to the gym at 16, i started going to the gym but unfortunately the gym I went to was all filled with bodybuilders and just not the space to do a simple CrossFit workout. From this I tried to adapt my workout so I could mix both weight and cardio together. But this still seemed hard as it was always busy.
I started looking at other gyms in my local area and was able to get a job at a local leisure centre as a lifeguard, this came with a massive advantage as attached to this facility there was a gym which did CrossFit which I received for free as I work there.
I soon started to be able to do the workouts which I used to struggle to do at my own gym. Due to the fact there was more room and better equipment for what I was looking to do in the gym I started to really process with the workouts and also some of the Olympic lifts by hitting a new PB in the gym with a 120kg jerk of the blocks which was a huge achievement for me and also being one of the youngest athletes in the gym.
My training and programming were really on point, but I still wasn’t training at an affiliate as the nearest one was 1.5 hours away from where I lived which was always a struggle. But luckily when I turned 17, I was able to drive myself there as I really wanted to be involved in some of the team WOD’s and also being able to improve my gymnastics/ Olympic lifts through their private’s session with their coaches.
Now I am at university I wish to carry on my CrossFit training by going to the local box and also being able to do some of my lifts at the university gym. To conclude I say that CrossFit is highly benefitable for anyone as it can involve everyone and anyone as a workout can easily be adapted to match the persons needs. I will carry on participating at CrossFit and hope to widen my knowledge on the daily to hopefully own my own gym in the near future.
