What makes an effective coach

What does make an effective coach?

An effective coach to me would be someone who can gain trust and be able to get an individual or a team motivated to achieve their goal. From my point of view I think a coach needs to be enthusiastic about the sport which they are coaching they really need to have a big passion for what they are doing, as I think if you had a coach who is massively eager and has a real love to the sport, another reason which can make an effective coach is it can be experience. Experience is a key aspect for the coach to be good at their role and be able to respond to the challenges which can be dawned onto the team during a match or training, from this it will also build a good reputation for the coach which will be good due to the coach will be recognised as a good coach and a good role model for their team. I think the coach is the most clinical aspect to a team without a coach or manager in a team there will be no guideless and no structure to the team/ individual, all of the top athletes work with their coaches every minute of the day from getting the athlete to training at 5.00am to making sure that the individual is eating right and is getting the correct recovery so they are ready for the next training session. For example, Chris Hinshaw who is the man, mind and coach for Mat Fraser, Rich Froning, Tia Clair Toomey and Team Mayhem. Chris Hinshaw is known for his knowledge and specialities in the aerobic capacity coaching and programming for CrossFit athletes, fitness enthusiasts and some of the best sports specialists in the world. Hinshaw can happily claim that he has successfully coached 28 CrossFit games champions and his athletes have filled more than 38 podium spots since 2003. From these facts it just shows the determination and the enjoyment Hinshaw has towards working with and training up some of the fittest and best athletes in the world.

One of my all-time favourite coach would be Freddie Roach; the reason for this is that is that even though after know he was starting to suffer from Parkinson’s disease, he still carried on fighting as he was so in love with the sport until he had to eventually retire from the sport of boxing, but soon moved onto coaching some of the best boxers in the world from the likes of Mike Tyson, Bernard Hopkins and to now with his 16 years of partnership with Manny Pacquiao.
